MideopsinaeMM219999 The Mideopsidae is a family of water mites in the superfamily Arrenuroidea. In Australia there are five genera in four subfamilies. There is only one genus in the subfamily Mideopsinae in Australia: Penemideopsis (3 spp., Vic, WA, and new records from Qld (HCP)). Penemideopsis species are easily differentiated from other mideopsids by this combination of characters: only three pairs of genital acetabula; no serrate projection from the second palp segment. Penemideopsis species occur in interstitial regions of streams and rivers. References Cook, D.R. 1986. Water mites from Australia. Mem. Amer. Ent. Inst. 40: 1-568. Harvey, M.S. 1996.
