This order contains three families, two of which are known from Australia. SMINTHURIDAECode QA139999 Family of globose Collembola. Common on vegetation and in the upper layers of leaf litter. Some few species are genuinely aquatic, living on the water surface. Distinguished from Neelidae by larger size and the antennae longer than the head, and from the other globose family, Dicyrtomidae, by the antennal distal segment longer than the penultimate segment. DICYRTOMIDAECode QA149999 Family of globose Collembola. Inhabitants of vegetation and in the upper layers of leaf litter, but not as common as Sminthuridae. Distinguished from Sminthuridae by having the distal antennal segment shorter than the penultimate segment, and from the other globose collembolan family Neelidae by larger size and antennae longer than head. |
