Shore bugs

Code QH69999

These bugs are generally found at the margins of fresh or salt water, in splash zones or in marshy conditions. Saldidae are small (3-5 mm) and elongate to oval, usually with a mottled pattern on the dorsal surface. The antennae are longer than the head. The head is narrow, either rounded or pointed anteriorly, and extends a little behind the eyes. The eyes are hemispherical, taking up most of the lateral margin. The legs are of normal proportion, not unduly long although the hind legs may be somewhat longer than the others. Saldidae are most readily distinguished from Leptopodidae by their lack of spines on the labium and foreleg femora.
