Code QH089999

Small, pear-shaped Hemiptera (suborder Homoptera) commonly found feeding on live plant material. Almost all species are terrestrial but a few are aquatic or semi-aquatic on water-lilies and other submerged plants. Aphids frequently land on the water surface, and therefore are encountered commonly in drift samples. Aphididae are well known as some species are common horticultural pests.

A unique feature by which Aphididae can be identified is that the apical abdominal segment carries dorsally two small secretory horns, called cornicles.
