Medium sized Trichoptera inhabiting sandy substrates in streams and lakes. Larvae construct tubular cases of sand grains, somewhat depressed dorsoventrally with lateral flanges.

Larval head strongly dome shaped, antennae rather long for Trichoptera and close to the anterior margin. Eyes large and elongate. Fore and mid legs with the tibia and tarsus fused. Thoracic sclerotisation weak. Abdominal segment 1 without a dorsal hump but with prominent lateral humps. Abdominal gills present and branched. Lateral fringe present. Segment 8 without a lateral row of bifid spicules. Anal claws with several accessory hooks.

The family Kokiriidae is known from the Neotropical region and Australia, where three genera contain 5 species. Known from Victoria and Tasmania.
