Code QT229999

Medium-sized Trichoptera found in clear, cool-water streams. The larvae construct slightly curved, tapering cases from coarse sand grains.

Larval head moderately long and usually carinate laterally. Antennae at the anterolateral margin. Mesonotal sclerites clearly divided mid-dorsally, sometimes with a transverse ridge. Metanotum largely membranous but with several paired, weakly developed sclerites. Abdominal segment 1 with dorsal and lateral humps. Abdominal gills present and branched. Segment 8 with a lateral row of bifid spicules. Anal claws curved and usually without accessory hooks.

The family Odontoceridae are world-wide (excepting the Ethiopian region). In Australia four species in two genera are known, from Queensland, NSW and Victoria, but not from Western Australia or Tasmania.
