Taxonomy
Family: Calliphoridae
Subfamily: Luciliinae
Genus: Hemipyrellia Townsend 1918
Species: ligurriens (Wiedemann 1830)
The first-, second- and third-instar larvae were described by Erzinçlioglu (1984) and Sukontason et al. (2008). The egg and puparium were also described by Sukontason et al. (2008).
Biology
Hemipyrellia
ligurriens breeds in dead animals, garbage, human and
animal faeces. It is a species of forensic
importance as it has been collected from human corpses
(Sukontason et al. 2008). It is also of sanitary
importance, especially in areas around open markets, due to
its attraction to human faeces.
Distribution
The species
has a wide distribution in the Oriental region. In
Australia, it has only been recorded from Queensland.
