Taxonomy
Family: Calliphoridae
Subfamily: Luciliinae
Genus: Lucilia Robineau-Desvoidy 1830
Species: papuensis Macquart 1843
The immature stages are unknown.
Biology
Lucilia
papuensis is common throughout south-eastern Asia. It
probably breeds on carrion. Various authors
have captured the species at carcasses, with
adults being recorded from the head of a dead marsupial, as
well as from human excrement (Kurahashi 1987; James 1971).
Adults have also been captured in traps baited with beef
liver. In Papua New Guinea, the species persists
throughout the year and has been recorded at an elevation of
2400m above sea level (Kurahashi 1987).
Distribution
Lucilia
papuensis is found only in New South Wales and
Queensland.
