Locating abdomen and ventrites
The abdomen is posterior to the hind legs (Fig. 1). In Cetoniinae there are six obvious segments, the ventrites.

Form of setae
There are two states:
- Short and thick scale-like setae no longer than a third of the length of the ventrite. Invariably arising from a U-shaped puncture (Fig. 2A).
- Long and fine hair-like setae longer than a third of the length of the ventrite (Fig. 2B).
