Locating the hind tibia and median spines

The hind tibia is the middle segment of the hind leg (Fig. 1). Most Cetoniinae have a spine midway along the dorsal edge of the hind tibia. The size, shape and number of median spines may vary between species or sexes.

  1. Median spine absent or a small blunt tubercle present.

  2. One conspicuous spine present.

  3. Two conspicuous spines present.
