This is one of three riverine species found in northeast Australia that have similar shell morphology. This one differs from J. thaanumi in having a swollen bursal duct and consistently open umbilicus, and from J. tullyensis in having rounded shoulders.

Found in shaded, clear flowing creeks and the main river; rock and gravel beds.
Found in the Mulgrave River and Fishery Creek drainages of north-eastern Queensland.
