Biology [Martin 2004 Zootaxa: 39]: Pupal case from pale to patterned or evenly- dark; oval, elliptical or very large. Wax secretions vary from absent to secreting long white ribbons.
Distribution: Nearctic & Neotropical.
Taxonomy [Martin 2004 Zootaxa: 39][Caballero, 1992: 70-71][Sampson & Drews, 1941: 149]:
Terminal claw present on each leg. Marginal teeth sometimes with microtubercles. Margin appears weakly dentate.
Single pair of submedian setae present on each segment of the cephalothorax; outer row of 13-17 (usually 14-15) pairs of setae present some displaced mesad into the subdorsal area (representing nominally the submarginal setae).
Usually with 9 pairs of transverse bands (rays) present extending mesad from the margin, although more subtly marked in the cephalothorax.
Compound pores completely absent. Dorsal disc with simple pores and porettes as solitary or paired pores either scattered or in groups.
Vasiform orifice subchordate; Lingula is inserted, setose, short & conical or triangular with four setae.
Related genera: Related to Stenaleyrodes differing by lacking compound-type pores. Absorbed the genus Bondaria.
Natural Enemies [Evans Collection]: Encarsia luteola, E. nigricephala, E. protransvena, E. sp.; Eretmocerus sp.; and Signiphora aleyrodis.
