Biology[Martin, 1999: 54-55] : Puparia normally pale; about 40 species are described.
Distribution[Martin, 1999: 55] : Widespread
Taxonomy[Martin,
1999: 54-55] : Puparium. Pale sometimes with brownish
pigmentation; Margin.
Crenulated and sometimes slightly, modified at the thoracic furrows ventrallywith slight stippling. Dorsum. A concentric dorsal suture-like fold or
furrow absent. Setal traits and tubercles/papillae pattern or presence highly
variable even within species; vasiform
orifice acute-triangular leading into a pronounced caudal furrow; containing
a spinulose acutely elongated
lingula (inserted) and completely exposed with a trapezoidal operculum covering only the
anterior half of the vasiform orifice.
Comments and affinities: This genus includes numerous species some of which can be included in one of the three groups: the afer group, the asterobemisia group and the tabaci group.
