Distribution and Habitat

Northern Kimberley, growing on an unknown host. The species has not been found in Western Australia for some years but is still extant in the Northern Territory and far north Queensland.

Description

A rare species (in Western Australia) 100–170 mm high with slender pseudobulbs 20–80 mm long by 5–10 mm across topped by two to six, semi-cylindrical leaves 40–170 mm long by 3–6 mm wide. Inflorescences 80–300 mm in length arise from terminal and subterrminal nodes and comprise up to 20 cream, yellow and pale brown flowers 12–35 mm across with a rich pink-purple tipped labellum.

Distinguishing Features

it is closely related to Brown Tea Tree Orchid (Dendrobium canaliculatum) but has slender, almost terete leaves, more narrowly oblong petals and a distinctly apiculate or acuminate labellum midlobe.
