Distribution and Habitat

Perth to Albany, growing in sandy, sandy-clay and clay soils in forests, woodlands, shrublands and seasonally wet flats, flowering best in the season following summer fire. At the northern end of its range the species is confined to seasonally wet flats and creek lines but at the southern end occupies a range of habitats.

Description

A robust species 500–2000 mm high with a smooth tubular leaf 450–1200 mm long by 10–18 mm wide and up to 100 greenish-yellow or burgundy flowers 12–16 mm across.

Distinguishing Features

It is distinguished from the related Tall Leek Orchid (Prasophyllum elatum) by its taller inflorescence and more numerous, larger flowers. It is also usually just starting to flower by the time that species is finishing.
