Perennial forb to 1.2m tall. Leaves basal, with a sheath at the base, 8-20mm wide, flat, glaucous green to purple. Flowers pale blue to greenish blue, with 6 'petals', in open groups at the tops of the flowering stems. Fruit blue. Family Phormiaceae NSW. Family Liliaceae SA. Vulnerable SA. Vulnerable Vic.

Differs from Dianella longifolia var. longifolia in that the the leaves are strongly glaucous, the leaf blades about the same width throughout their length, and the leaf sheaths are pallid to pale brown.

Differs from Dianella revoluta in that the anthers are yellow, and the leaf edges flat.
