Diagnostic features

This species is similar to G. kessneri. However, G. beecheyi is usually smaller, and typically paler, than the former. Furthermore, the species are not sympatric.

Type locality: North of Ballys Lagoon, Devils Gate Station, Gulf of Carpentaria, Queensland.

Biology and ecology

This species occurs in billabongs and other large semi-permanent pools, living mainly on submerged macrophytes.

Distribution

Coastal plains of the Gulf of Carpentaria into the western base of Cape York.
