Recorded from 2 Australian species in Asteraceae: Xerochrysum bracteatum, Ozothamnus cordatus

Distribution

Oceania: Australia (New South Wales, Victoria, Western Australia)

Key characters

Scutellum almost entirely black; third antennal segment yellow; femora yellow with brown patches, tibiae and tarsi uniformly brown; first (inner) cross vein (r-m) beyond centre of discal cell; second (outer) cross-vein (dm-cu) on wing conspicuously oblique (Spencer 1963).  Pale puparium  with posterior spiracles each with 3 equal circular bulbs, remains in the leaf at end of the mine (Spencer 1977).

Notes

The larva forms an irregular, upper surface channel mine which finally runs for a short distance on the the lower surface, where pupation takes place. Frass is deposited in only a few large, widely separated lumps (Spencer 1963).
