Genus  Aleurodicus Douglas.

Nomenclature

Aleurodicus Douglas in Morgan 1892: 32  Type species Aleurodicus annonae Morgan.

Distribution: Although primarily natives of the Neotropics, seven species are natives of the Asia-Pacific area  [Martin, 1999]  [Martin, 1996] .

Taxonomy  [Martin, 1999]  [Caballero, 1992:58-59]

Terminal claws always  present on leg.

Usually margin not dentate except for the following species:  Aleurodicus antidesmae Corbett, A. cinnamomi Takahashi,  Aleurodicus holmesii (Maskell), Aleurodicus machili Takahashi, & Aleurodicus wallaceus Martin .

Four, five, or six abdominal pairs of subdorsal compound pores with central processes.     The first four usually large with the central processes exserting beyond the pore orifice;  one or two significantly smaller  compound pores  absent or present on caudal segments VII & VIII.   Simple pores of various types present or absent within the genus: discoidal, wide rimmed, double-rimmed, & septate shape.

12 pairs of sub marginal hair-like setae;  2 to 4 submedian pairs of cephalothoracic setae present; in some cases the cephalic and/or the prothoracic setae pairs absent.

Chordate (heart-shaped) vasiform orifice;  lingula is large, blunted (see caveat below),  and exserted  (glossary definition) with four setae (two of which many be reduced making it difficult to see or broken off).

Natural Enemies  [Kairo et al 2001]  [Gomez & Garcia 2000]  [Polaszek & Hayat 1992]  [Thompson 1950]  [Thompson 1950]  [Dozier 1933]  [Evans Collection] : See the species listings below for specific species.  In addition, the following parasites/predators are known to attack Aleurodicus sp.: Signiphora sp. (Hymenoptera, Signaphoridae); Encarsia luteola Howard group, E. protransvena Viggiani,  E. variegata; Encarsiella aleurodici, Encarsiella ciliata, E. narroi, & E. sp. (Hymenoptera, Aphelinidae);  Aleuroctonus vittatus (Dozier) (Hymenoptera, Eulophidae).

Related genera:  Can be confused with Aleuronudus, Austroaleurodicus, Azuraleurodicus, Metaleurodicus.

***These species are intercepted in quarantine (in the table below).

Caveat: An unknown genus will key to this if the lingula tapers to a point.  Nakahara's provisional key has it identified as "N.Gen".
