Australian Tropical Rainforest Plants

The main goal for Edition 7 of Australian Tropical Rainforest Plants was to extend the coverage of the key to include the whole of the Australian tropics; previous editions covered south to Townsville which is c. 450 km north of the Tropic of Capricorn. Thus, Edition 7 adds the taxa found in rainforests of the central Queensland coastal region between Rockhampton and Townsville. A second goal was to add taxa from regions already covered that had not been included in previous editions primarily due to lack of specimens for coding. And finally, a third goal was to fully update the nomenclature and distribution information for all taxa.

Australian Tropical Rainforest Plants Edition 7 includes 2753 taxa in 176 families, an increase of 200 taxa over Edition 6. All flowering plant species are included – trees, shrubs, vines, forbs, grasses and sedges, epiphytes, palms and pandans – except most orchids which are treated in a separate key, and a few other species for which specimens suitable for coding features are lacking.
